About Us
Hosted by the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation and the Greater Bay Area Homeland Investments Limited, supported by the Shenzhen Bell Education Group, ’GenRobo’ AI course is now recruiting students with a goal to provide them with free basic training in robot building, programming and artificial intelligence for 2,000 Form 1 to Form 3 students in Hong Kong. In addition, 200 students who excel in the basic course will have the opportunity to take the advanced course. They will then participate in a local competition and the winners will be able to join the national robot competition to connect them with the bigger world.
Mr. Daryl NG, the Chairman of the Council Committee of Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation said, 'Artificial Intelligence is the key to future science and technology development. The ‘GenRobo’ AI course organised by the Foundation enables children from underprivileged families to receive training at a critical stage of their growth, so as to cultivate their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving abilities. This training also helps broaden their understanding of the latest technologies so as to lay a solid foundation for their future development,' Mr. Bin YANG, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation said, 'The course aims to train students' logical thinking and programming knowledge through interesting learning methods. This is a good opportunity to achieve the Foundation’s mission ‘For Our Youth, For Our Future’.'
Learning centres in Tin Shui Wai and Ma On Shan have been set up to conduct the training courses this year. The basic course lasting about 6 months are jointly operated by the Yuen Long Youth Federation and Sha Tin Communities. Each student will take 8 classes and complete the course in 8 hours. By offering 2,000 free places, the Foundation aims to enable more young people to improve their AIQ (Artificial Intelligence Quotient) – the cooperation and competition between human and artificial intelligence, including creativity, learning capacity, communication skills and data processing ability. In addition, the course is endorsed by schools in the New Territories with dedicated classes being carried out in some schools. Supporting organisations to this AI course include: New Territories Schools Heads Association, Yuen Long Outstanding Student Union, Tuen Mun Youth Association, Tin Shui Wai Residents Services Association Fund and Ma On Shan Residents Services Association. As for the advanced course, there will be 200 places. Students who have completed both courses will be selected to participate in national robot competitions to compete with local and elite students from Mainland China, all fees will be sponsored by the Foundation. The Foundation plans to expand the programme to serve more local communities in the coming year.
’GenRobo’ AI course is supported by the Shenzhen Bell Education Group which designs course materials and develops course contents. The Group was established in 2011 and has set up more than 200 robot programming centres in over 20 cities across the country. It has provided training for more than 700,000 children and youths. The course materials are compiled by senior tutors with reference to the courses at home base and abroad. After completing the course, students will be able to master robot building and basic programming. Beginners can learn Scratch while advanced students can learn Python. The course is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the PRC. The Group hosts national competitions every year and the winners will be awarded with certificates from the Ministry of Education.
